Mancunian Soprano Sarah Thomas…
is currently studying for a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music (RCM) with Sarah Tynan, supported by the Sybil Tutton Opera Award and private sponsorship. She completed her Bachelor's degree at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under the tutelage of Mary Plazas, graduating with 94% in her final recital and receiving the Norma Procter Song Prize at the Junior Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
Sarah will make her RCM Opera debut this July, performing two roles in the college's contemporary opera productions. She is passionate about truthful characterisation, creating performances that are both vivid and accessible to audiences. Her lyric voice has been described as “warm”, “natural”, and “polished” by distinguished artists including Fflur Wyn and Anna Devin. Coaches Gary Matthewman and Stuart Wild have nurtured her strong vocal colour and attention to detail, guiding her through repertoire including Alcina, Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira, and Magda.
Sarah is also a member of the National Opera Studio Academy and recently returned to the studio to perform scenes from Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi), Don Giovanni (Donna Anna), and Alcina. This summer, she looks forward to attending the Grasmere Song Course as a partial bursary award holder and continuing her collaboration with Kleine Opera in February 2027.
Sarah is grateful for the generous support of the William Gibbs Educational Trust, which will support her studies during the 2026–27 academic year through the St John's Hyde Park Choral Scholarship.
